KKM as a PO engaged in the protection of the Marine Turtle Protected Area and the Gasan Fish Sanctuary follows BFAR regulations in fishing using nets as prescribed in the Fisheries Code. The PO uses fishing nets falingl within the prescribed size, (no less than 3 cm). The Fisheries Code also allows fine mesh nets for “other species already mature such as but not limited to alamang, sinarapan, dilis and snails”.
The PO only uses this fine mesh nets for dilis, limiting catch to the months of November to January. It relies primarily on its members, who are small fisherfolks for the supply of fish for bagoong and patis making. Supply of fish for processing is seasonal, which also leads to a seasonal production.
